Criminal Minds

Criminal Minds is just another crime-fighting mystery show.

Criminal Minds is a fascinating show about the FBI’s Behavioral Analysis Unit. They use Behavioral Analysis to find and catch the perpetrator.

I like watching Criminal Minds because for one it has 14 seasons of 22 45-minute episodes each, which is very important for the college binge-watching grind. Secondly, You don’t need to follow along with every episode because every episode is a different case with generally the same FBI agents.

You can find the first 12 seasons on Netflix.

Runescape has been around since 2001 as RuneScape Classic. It then moved into Runescape 2 in 2012 and the current Runescape 3 in 2013.

The big thing with Old School RuneScape is that when it moved from RuneScape 2 to 3 the player base was upset with the quality and in-game changes so much so that they signed a petition to make RuneScape 2 AKA “Old School” RuneScape playable again. Jagex ended up releasing OSRS as its own game alongside RuneScape 3. Currently, Old School RuneScape has around 130,000 players while RuneScape 3 has only 45,000.

13 years after its release it has nearly 3 times as many players as the newest version of the game.

Modded Minecraft

Back in my early high school years, I used to play a lot and I mean a lot of Minecraft.

How To Download & Install Feed The Beast Modpacks (Install Modpacks with the FTB Launcher!) - YouTube

First off, what is modded Minecraft. Well, basically there is are files called mods, that are add-ons to the basic Minecraft realm. You can add hundreds or 2, however many you want. Because Minecraft was written in the popular coding language Java, it is quite easy to make a so-called mod that modifies the gameplay in the original game.

There are many ways of playing modded Minecraft. There is what the community calls “Vanilla” Minecraft which is the untouched original game and there is “modded”. Vanilla is where you double click on the Minecraft logo on your desktop and it opens up a launcher where you can select the version of Minecraft and your account and boot it up. One of the easiest ways to load modded Minecraft is by downloading a modded Minecraft client, such as Feed The Beast or the popular Tekkit. These two third-party launchers allow you to loads dozens of mods pre-packaged together for you fast-forwarding the modded process.

I got into modded Minecraft from watching a Twitch stream when I was 13 or so, I think I actually played modded before I played vanilla seriously. I became fascinated with it because it allowed my creativity to be pushed exponentially compared to the vanilla versions. There was so much new stuff to do and learn, I became infatuated.

I hope I tapped into either an old memory of yours or maybe inspired to get into and try modded Minecraft I personally got lost in the game for hundreds of hours.

Rapala: Pro Series

https://www.nintendo.com/content/dam/noa/en_US/games/switch/r/rapala-fishing-pro-series-switch/rapala-fishing-pro-series-switch-hero.jpg

Rapala: Pro Series is a fishing game for the Nintendo Switch and The Xbox One. It is a basic fishing game with multiple maps, fish, challenges and gear.

Me and a few of my friends have recently found this game. One of my friends bought it on his switch as a joke, but one day we were hanging out and I saw he had it on his Switch. I opened it up and tried it out.

We all ended up liking it! It ended up being a super fun game to play and watch. It has a Solo mode where you can free play every map and catch different fish depending on the map. You can play and earn money from daily challenges and it also has a really fun tournament mode. I really like the tournament mode because it can become somewhat stressful because you pay in-game currency to enter the timed tournament so you have to place in the top 5 to get your money back.

Overall the price my friend bought it for was $1, at that price point I would say it was extremely worth it. I liked to think of a good rule for judging a game value is if you played it for more hours than you bought it for in dollars it was worth it. I.E. 30 hours for a $30 game, it was worth it.

“The show with hot questions and even hotter wings.”

This week I decided to write about a popular internet show called Hot Ones.

Hot Ones is hosted by the amazing Sean Evans.

The show is a basic celebrity interview show with a twist. Each question comes with a bite from a chicken wing tossed in hot sauce.

There are 10 questions and with each question, the sauce gets hotter.

I personally really enjoy getting to know someone even if I have never met them. One of my favorite things about the Hot One’s show is that Sean Evans the host always does a deep dive on the guest on the show and always has these really good questions. Sean has talked about this before on many podcasts is how hard him and his team work to find these question and how much research he has done. One note he brought up in one of the podcasts was that he will watch other people interview his upcoming guest and take note of what questions the guest liked, didn’t like, or wanted to talk about more based on their body language.

The Hot Ones Show has heading into its thirteenth season on youtube and has interviewed celebrities from Billie Eilish to Gordan Ramsay to the most recent episode, Jessica Alba.

Avatar: The Last Airbender

Lately, I have been watching the Nickolodeon show Avatar: The Last Airbender.

I have seen it before when I was younger, in middle school, but the show was re-released on Netflix earlier this year so I thought I would check it out again.

The show is about a 12-year old boy named Aang who has the power to bend air into attack and defense moves.

He teams up with a brother and sister duo Katara and Sokka. The two found him frozen in an iceberg which was 100 years old! He then learns that there is a war going on between the different element bender nations and that he is the last hope.

Aang, The Last Airbender has to master all four elements in order to defeat the Fire Lord Ozai and end the war.

I recommend this show to anyone really. It is an all-around easy to watch and follow along show. It has touches of silly human and a good story.

Politics

One thing that I am not really used to talking about is politics.

This year’s Presidential Election is extremely important and I used to not care. I used to not even think about voting and I didn’t even care about politics.

Like many Americans, it is always easier to not vote than to go out and do it. Another common thought is, “Well it doesn’t matter if I vote or not one vote isn’t going to make a difference.” Which is technically true one vote isn’t going to make a difference but, if all of the eligible voters who think this exact thing vote, then they would make a huge difference.

I never was into politics. It never found it interesting so I just wouldn’t participate or care to educate myself on it. My mom wouldn’t let me watch the news until I was in High School because she wanted to protect me from the “bad stuff” that was real life.

WIFFLEBALL

The toy and backyard sport WiffleBall is a new one the scene.

I played a lot of baseball in my life and I had one of those skinny, yellow plastic wiffleball bats and the ball with the holes in it. I used to love wiffleball. I was infatuated with the crazy pitches you could throw and if you scuff it up enough it could curve up to 10 feet.

A while back when I was really into wiffleball I was on the Youtubes and found this wiffleball tournament. It was a tournament that included teams from all over the U.S. and the teams were made up of usually grown men throwing this plastic ball 60 mph and curving it several feet across the plate.

I just think it is a really cool sport that I wish I got into more and I thought those dudes playing plastic baseball in the middle-aged bodies were pretty fun to watch.

Woodworking

Recently, I have been trying to find new hobbies and with quarantine and all, I looked into one in particular. Woodworking.

One of my good friends knows carpentry and woodworking and tells me all about it. He talks about the different types of wood, the tools he uses, and what he is working on. He recently moved into a new house and wanted to use his skills to upgrade the house and lower the cost so he told me about how he is going to build all new cabinets and tables and chairs and it got me thinking about how useful a skill like that is.

Being able to make something out of nothing seems so practical to me and so useful. Let’s say I wanted a new coffee table for my apartment. I go to the hardware store buy a coupe 2x4s and cut a few pieces up screw them together and “VOILA” a new table. Costs half the price and only took twice the time and it looks how I wanted it to.

I just think it’s really handy in life to have a handyman or practical skill such as woodworking and I look forward to getting into it more!

Why I chose my major

As you may know, if you read my “About Me” page, that I am a robotics major. Now I got interested in robotics when I first started getting more into video games.

I grew up with a Gameboy, then the DS, and onto a Wii and a PSP. I never had an Xbox or a PlayStation because my parents, “didn’t like all the shooting games”. So I had to take another route.

It was the summer going into high school and I found twitch which is a streaming service for mainly video games. I found that you had to have a computer to stream the games they were playing like Minecraft and World of Warcraft.

I got really interested in it and all of my freshman year in my free time I would be researching how to build a PC and what parts are the best. As a high school freshman I didn’t have any money, so the next summer I got my first job and worked all summer just to buy this computer.

Ever since I built my first computer I have been really interested in electronics and all the constant advancements in the world of technology.

Why did YOU choose YOUR major?
